This day trip takes you to visit Hanoi vicinity to some handicraft villages that produce the finest craft works exported over the world. The villages specialize in wide variety of crafts from the making of conical (non) hats, ceramic, wood furniture to the production of fine lacquer wares, fine silk clothing… You’ll be amazed by the skill of these artisans, good opportunity to learn about local arts and crafts, or look for an ideal gift or memento of your journey to Vietnam.

ITINERARY

A Day to experience the handicraft villages around Hanoi.

8.00 Our guide meets up at your hotel and start the tour to Van Phuc silk village, the cradle of best silk in Vietnam once. You will find very interesting in the silk village with many colourful clothes, hats, bags, tie… made of authentic silk. Visit the silk producing workshop, learn about silk making process and shop for finest silk products in Van Phuc village.

Move on to Bat Trang ceramic village, the most famous and long-standing pottery village in Vietnam with a nearly 1,000 years old historic development. There’s the upper side which commercialized and focuses on glazed ceramic items and the riverside ‘ancient’ village leans more towards earthenware and pottery products. You will visit a small family factory to see how the artisans form, paint and glaze with unique products made by skillful hands of the artists in harmony with the soil’s spirit and even have a chance to practice your talent with wet clay and a mould.

Have lunch at local restaurant.

Afternoon, continue to visit Dong Ho folk painting where the traditional woodblock paintings are preserved, you will be surprised by the folk paintings made by the local skillful artisans with natural materials and colors. Each painting is completely handmade on paper of the Dzo tree and is coloured with other natural materials and its glittery surface is finished with oyster shell dust. If time permit, you can take a visit to But Thap Pagoda nearby, the cradle of Buddhism in Vietnam with the unique architecture, sure to make you impressed by its charms and history.

The tour might end after the folk painting village, drive back to your hotel in Hanoi and finish around 5.00pm.

To visit a lacquerware workshop in Ha Thai village to learn about our centuries-old technique of applying and polishing layer upon layer of varnish from the Vietnamese lacquer tree (Rhus succedanea). Combined with eggshell and mother-of-pearl inlays, the lacquer works of art found here come in thousands of designs and varieties. Alternatively, Du Du Sculpture village, this is a traditional sculpture village offering various kinds of lively and artistic sculptures that display traditional cultural and historic themes. And Dinh Cong Jewelry craft village, famous for its long-term history of jewelry handcraft sculpturing. Other choice is on your own, we serve it.
